Spacer Bars
The spacer bar is the bar that separates the 2 or 3 pieces of glass in a sealed window unit.
Some types of spacer bar conduct more heat or allow more cooling than others, making the glass colder in the winter or warmer in the summer.
Some types of spacer bars will hold their seal longer than others.
At one time, there was a significant difference in spacer bars from one manufacturer to another.
Today there is a very marginal difference between the best and worst performers.
Experts Recommend: When comparing performance, more weight should be placed on the type of glass than on the types of spacer bars.

Window Gas Fills
Argon is an inert gas that slows down the rate of convection inside the window’s sealed glass unit
The result is warmer glass in the winter and cooler glass in the summer
Argon is standard in 99% of windows in Ontario
Krypton gas (more inert than argon) is an upgrade option with some manufacturers
Experts Recommend: Krypton gas has minimal performance advantages over argon gas and is usually not worth the extra cost.
Triple Pane Windows
Adding a third pane to your window will improve the thermal performance.
With 3 panes of glass, you can add up to 3 coatings of low E and an extra argon fill to get the best performing window.
The third pane also helps reduce sound transmission through your window – excellent for high noise areas.
Triple pane is a minimal investment ranging from 10-20% more than a standard double pane window.
Experts Recommend: You don’t change your windows often, so choose the best window technology available today.
